Stormwater Sink

The Franklin Neighborhood Development Corporation (FNDC) wanted to replant an existing stormwater swale on 32nd Street with native species that would improve the swale’s functionality by increasing water uptake, adding visual interest, and providing resources for pollinators. At the same time, the city of Sacramento wanted a case study to showcase best practices around creating and maintaining a bioswale (check out their Be River Friendly resources here!). I teamed up with Brodeur Landscapes to develop and install a planting plan, and I also provided graphics that the city could include in their instructional video. For the plant palette, we brainstormed species that can withstand the most extreme conditions, from inundation to nearly no water during the summer.

A collaborative effort with Brodeur Landscapes, and plants from Cornflower Farms.
